Collaborating on the global stage realizing the United Nations pact for the future. The Learning Planet Festival is dedicated to celebrating education and lifelong learning. With over 400 partners on all continents, the Festival explores new ways of learning, teaching, and making an impact in light of complex societal and environmental challenges. By highlighting the diversity of actors that are engaged at the local, national and international levels, this annual gathering nurtures a culture of hope and engagement.
LEARNING PLANET INSTITUTE FESTIVAL
Twenty years after her death, reflect on the legacy of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm (1924–2005) in a conversation with artist Bisa Butler and creative entrepreneur and cultural producer Barbara Bullard. Butler, whose portrait of Chisholm is featured in Toward Joy: New Frameworks for American Art, is a textile artist known for her vibrant, larger-than-life quilted portraits. Bullard is the president of the Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute, founded in 1977 to preserve Chisholm’s legacy through initiatives from her influential career in public service. Their conversation is moderated by Stephanie Sparling Williams, Andrew W. Mellon Curator of American Art at the Brooklyn Museum.

Barbara was invited to speak at The Library of Congress, as entrepreneur and President of the Shirley Chisholm Cultural Institute on behalf of the legacy of Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm, the first woman and African American to seek nomination for President of the United States of America. Additional speakers: Speaker Pelosi, Librarian of The Library of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden, Congresswoman Beatty, Congresswoman Clarke, and a Representative from the National Museum of African American History & Culture.
Honoring and bringing together leaders, neuroscientists, and educators, with new approaches, research, and potential solutions for the nationwide and global learning disability crisis in our education systems. Barbara was in conversation with the BRIC Brooklyn Executive Producer to discuss disparities in the art and culture community and the global response with a common theme of healing. An art and healing video produced by Barbara was shared. Barbara facilitated a guided meditation for BRIC staff, from upper management to administrators.
